yeah - the last time i rode it was the same way - should be a great run

not sure yet what the state of condition of my car will be - i may have to yank the motor, or i may just run it as is and carry oil

Let me get this right Flash...after all the work you do to your car, there is an oil leak! What hope is there for us mortals!

lol - worse than an oil leak - i am burning oil due to a plumbing mistake made when i was first developing the supercharger, which caused oil to go where it isn't supposed to - it has not cleared up yet - i either got a defective head when pete rebuilt it, or i have gummed up oil rings that won't seat - not sure yet - i'll be poking around in there over the next couple of days and figure out where the problem is, and what to do about it

roflmao - got it - i'll keep that in mind

i just ordered a bunch of amsoil stuff to clean out the rings and reseat them - we'll see if it works

tomorrow i'll probably do a leakdown to verify the issue

probably going to change the air/oil separator again - i think i blew out the new one by using the wrong size vacuum hose - i have a check valve in there now, but i'm not sure yet that it is working like it should - i have a test i can do to find out, and will conduct that in the morning

whatever way this works out, i'll be driving the car - just not sure if it will be smoking or not

Are you really sure you want to drive it and not just play about with it a bit more!

lol - it does seem that way, doesn't it?

to be honest, i'm about done with this car at this point - if it doesn't shape up soon, i'm looking at moving on - we bought the 968 to be a weekend wine trip car - the SL500 is better at that though, so the 968 is somewhat superfluous

i've already decided not to build a race car out of one of these - it's just too big and heavy

i may yet go back to something lighter and quicker - since driving the TR-4A, i have been thinking about a supercharged and air conditioned mgb - the only reason i got rid of the last one was the lack of AC - now that there is a system i could install.........

who knows?

just 4 weeks to go!

i finally got some wonder goo to try to clean up my oil rings - the stuff has gotten great reviews - it was hell getting it, as EPA has banned its sale - i'll be putting it in tonight, then doing a flush - then doing a break in - i am hopeful that it will work

i think we currently have 3 or 4 cabs and at least 4 hardtops so far - love to see more - come on guys - get in on this - way too much fun to miss

make sure i know you're coming though, so that i can have all of the necessary things prepared

4 weeks boy where does the time go? Newtown feels like yesterday. They say as you get older time goes faster. I dislike they more and more!

Bummer for me, I'll be in L.A. 23 & 24, Sta Barbara on the 25 and Paso Robles on the 26th ..and then heading back to NorCal. Damn, sooo close.. <_<

But since I won't be driving the 968, moot point anyway.. otherwise I might have found a way to reverse the trip ( order of venues ) and stick around for the fun run. I'll also be with a rather large group of business colleagues, so tought to take a detour.

Looks like the forecast calls for 93-95 F, so that's a bit toasty for my blood, but it's still far better then Paso Robles where the temps during my visit there are expected to be 105 :o And in Paso, 105 feels like 115 ! Not looking forward to that al all.

Anyway, I digress... best wishes for a fun time at the Ortega cannonball run B)

Flash,

I'm in. I need a clevis pin for my clutch. I assume Sunset will have it and hopefully I can get it in time. If I don't, I will be in the Gumby green 912 :)

BTW, where's the starting point again?

Found the Cars and Coffee info. I need the bolt that connects the pedal to the pushrod for the clutch. Probably the bushing and maybe even a new clevis for the push rod too. Why, got a spare? :)

Accuweather.com And they,re usually spot on . It was for "LA " but as Irecall much of the area covered by Ortega is at least as warm as LA..if not warmer. iMaybe it was tha way only the time I took part in it, so could be just my luck, eh ?

tony - sorry - no spare - was just trying to figure out which part it was that was failing - another guy here just had the same part fail

corona indeed gets warm, and the year you did it, we went through town and suffered int he heat - we don't do that anymore - i rerouted the run to avoid that part - where it's hot, we're now going fast enough that it isn't an issue (freeway)

the rest of the route is not nearly that hot, and only about 5 degrees warmer than here, and since we aren't stopping, and won't have any city traffic to deal with, we should be good

sad to say, my car is getting put on a transporter for the move back to boston on saturday, so it won't be here for the ortega run!
really was looking forward to this, but unfortunately it's the way things have to go to get the cars back for when we arrive...
