Also quite rare is the 5-speed.

I thought so...but it appears that this is a 1994 version of the 1996 model.

jeff said that the car originally came with those bizarre multi-color fabric seats from the 944, but i have a hard time believing that, since the rest of the interior is the two tone grey - every car i have seen with those colored seats had matching panels and carpet - could just be another database error

anyway, i like the new seats in there much better - really compliments the interior

i may have to pop up and take a look at that car - it's about a block from where i used to live

The paint, and interior look really good for a car with that mileage. It also has both front and rear engine covers.

yeah - pretty sure it's an early 94 (note the build date)

Should get flagged down, looks like a dealer posting in the owner category.

nope - while the car is at a used car dealer, a member spotted the ad

it is not in the "owner's" section - this section is for exactly this kind of thing (but not for dealers themselves)

the classifieds are the "owner's section", and you have to be a member at least at Rookie level to post there

I mean Craigslist section. The ad is posted in "for sale / wanted > cars & trucks - by owner." Flagging is a Craigslist term, it's a helpful process to get rid of inappropriate, illegal or in this case, miscategorized ads. Dealers spamming the owner section of CL is a problem and this dealer deserves a flag IMO.

ah - my bad - i thought you meant here

i'm really not a frequenter of craig's list, so i don't know how that place works

if they have a policy about dealers posting in the owner's section, then i completely agree that flagging is appropriate, for the same reasons we don't allow that here

Dino,
First off the seller calls the color amaranth violet, it is Amethyst.

The car has a number of interesting things about it:

1) There are 14 Amethyst 968 coupes in the 968 registry (but I'm not done)
2) It is the only 94 in that color (I do have all the 94s)
3) It has option code 900 which is tourist delivery, rare
4) The sad part, it originally came with the multicolor fabric interior (code CN), it is the only 94 with this interior in any color and one of 6 (of any color) in total for all the coupes (so far). Either they wore out or someone didn't like them and replaced them with the 993 style seats.

Jeff

jeff, see post 5 - i'm having a very hard time believing that somebody changed the entire interior, and i've never seen it with just the seats

"jeff, see post 5 - i'm having a very hard time believing that somebody changed the entire interior, and i've never seen it with just the seats"

Bob,
That special cloth would only be on the seat inserts, front and rear. The remainder of the interior is exactly the same as any other light gray/classic gray interior car. A couple of other things. The seller never posted pictures of the rear seats. I have asked for them, maybe they are still original. And another thing, the 993 seats would be in marble gray (the light gray for the later years) where the original interior was light gray. Although the two light gray colors are similar they are not exactly the same so the seats wouldn't be a perfect match.

i'm not saying those seats are original - clearly they aren't as the car should have come with the 944 seats, as it looks like it is an early 94

all i am saying is that every time i have seen the colored seats (including 2 cars this color), the interior is coordinated to match or blend - having colored seats and the grey interior would be an aesthetic nightmare

I agree but you'll be surprised to see that this isn't the case with Amethyst.

For the cabs, of the 21 amethyst produced 4 had full magenta interiors, 4 had magenta/light gray interiors, 3 had black interiors, 4 had full classic gray interiors, 2 had light gray/black interiors, 1 had light gray/classic gray interior (like the coupe posted), and 3 had black/cashmere!!!

Coupes are shaping up to have similar numbers.

Here is the link to the factory brochure with the interior illustrated:

http://www.968regist...options pg7.jpg

The coupe posted had the second box in choice 5.

yuk! too many colors - light grey, dark grey, black, purple - where are the fuzzy dice?

no chance in hell i would keep those seats in there either - not surprised the guy yanked them - it's much better now

if the interior was matched, that would be one thing, and while i still hate anything close to red interior, at least it would match - seats should compliment the interior, not contrast it

that is exactly why i did deviating leather on my seats, where the stock ones were all cashmere - they were out of place like that - now they make sense

the grey seats make sense now too, and on top of that, no longer have the dated look of the multi-color fabric seats - the single color script is one thing, but i think those multi-color ones are out of place and belong in a buick regal

anyway, back to the car, i almost made it up there this weekend - maybe during the week

Keep us posted if you see it. It looks great in the photos but they always do. BTW, the 17"s wheels were added as well. I wonder if they are repos?

will do - i'll look at the wheels too, though i know quite a few people that bought wheels at the dealership at the time of delivery, so while not on the option sticker, they were no the sales sheet, and so still original

i'm just about to do that very thing on an SLK

Love the exterior color, but have never been a fan of cashmere (or beige/tan) interiors.

Where'd the guy go who has the amethyst coupe with M030 and cloth and/or script seats (I think out in CA)? I want his car, lots!!!
