Hi Mirror -

I'm in Sac. too and know the car you looked at. I looked at it 2 weekends ago and passed. (I was looking for a concours car with option code 220 LSD). It appears to me the car did a lot of sitting. Interior I think was shampooed and has a musty smell. I never drove the car, so I can't comment on that.

Long story short, if you love it, the low miles make it "worth it". However, please understand that the purchase is just the price of entry. Any car that doesn't have records, well, you have to assume the work has not been done, and this car will need it all. Rear hatch is a mess, as you state, and you have to assume at 38K miles that the belts and seals haven't been touched.

Nice seller...I wish him well, but I think he is overpriced for what he is offering.

Best wishes on the continued hunt,

Buzz

Hi Buzz -

Glad you're looking for a concours car, the last thing I need is two guys in Sacramento gunning for the same 968! Heh heh.

I liked the seller too, definitely doing what he loves. Had an ultra-rare naturally aspirated Ruf 964 there too. Drool. Anyway, I think I'm looking for something different than that particular car....now I just have to find it.

I've met some members of the local PCA recently. Are you a member?

Let me know if you're considering selling the '92..... heh heh.

Mirror -

Not only am I a member, I am the SVR G-24 (newer members) Co-chair. My wife Julia is the club's Social Director and G-24 Co-chair. We are bitten bad and in it deep. :o :D B)

Back to your puchase...there might be some local cars with willing sellers who just haven't been asked yet. PM if you want to talk by phone.

Best,

Buzz

Here's an interesting sale... there's a seller with two 968s for sale on Ebay (Item number: 4622452521). The buyer picks the car of choice

This seller is the SF Bay area. I've no affiliation.

Karl.

Hey Mirror,

I'm also a local (Sacramento) - I bought my 968 coupe 2 1/2 half years ago - it had 18K on it and I paid 22.8K - it now has 38K (daily driver). As far as maintenance - I changed the belts and fluids when I got it, new spark plugs, and changed the brake pads to metal master (mostly for the dust than necessity), oil & gas - is time . Most of my expenses have been by choice as in mods - 968engineering grill, turbo S splitter, KLA strut brace, 944racing short shifter, airbox, racer-x chip and the latest RS barn's catback (now I'm bitten with the RS Barn bug :o ). Oh and mine is Black B) so I know about living with a black car, especially with all the rain we've had lately - its hard to keep it looking as good as I should.

Buzz - wasn't Bob looking to sell his Red/black coupe a while back?

I won't make the Paso Robles trip - but we should be thinking about another locals drive - with mirror that makes at least 6 of us local - and I need to check out Ron's (blue cab) with the full on RS Barns upgrade :D .

Hey Mirror,

I am also local to Sacramento, sounds like you have been patient for a while now do yourself a favor and don't settle. These cars aren't that easy to find so it takes time to find the right car. Hope you get yours soon and we'll get another local drive going. I can also recomend a good shop in the area if you're interested. Looking forward to seeing you other Sac guys again in the near future.

Josh

Wow, lots of Sacto folks! That's great news! I'll definitely be asking about good repair shops, local owners that might be selling, etc. Feel free to PM me anytime if you know someone who might have a car for sale, or good shop recommendations.

Now that I've decided to truly take the plunge, I'm going to do all the steps I should. Thanks all!

I too purchased a low mileage car (94 Cab with 18K). I paid $24K for it last year but I am over the $30k mark now after the belts, PM, pinion bearings and of course the mods (RS barn system). I wouldnt be surprise if i spend another $5k this year, but hey, these cars are worth it. And to think, I thought about selling it at the beginning of this year, what was I thinking...

Yes, the 2006 figures are also in the April 2006 issue of Excellence Magazine. sadly, they are a bit lower still, Bob Blackwell.
