Nothing wrong with ASKING that price, no matter how unrealistically misaligned with the market it may be. Delusional, yes . Crazy, not so much - you never know if there is that one in a million person out there who wants a pristine 968 , has money but no interest in doing any research about these cars to see what else he / she may be able to find and pays a lot more for it than they " should " .
When I bought mine it was the result of seeing a blue 968 drive by, it was love at first sight and as impulsive as I am just a few days later I found my own blue 968 on eBay , never saw the car in person ( it was in another state ) did not bother with any PPI, did not try to negotiate the asking price, I simply bought it and had it shipped over . Maybe there is another nutcase out there who'll do the same with this car. Same with the flashmobile , maybe asking for a much higher price ( say $ 100 k ) lends itself to a greater perception of rarity and desirability ..and that car is truly unique and superlative .. but that's a subject for the other thread..

the thing i find most interesting is that an M030 car, especially one which has not had the suspension redone, would be the lowest on the list for me.  it would represent the highest cost to maintain, with the hardest for which to get parts.

but, i also understand that the autocross guy might be looking at the points it would save, and so it could be attractive for that use.

Prices here in the UK are on the up as well

Low mileage Clubsport went for 32K GBP last month, coupes are getting near 10K for a good one unless it's a TIP.

Just got an agreed value on mine at 10K with no argument from the insurer

We're among the handful of people who give a crap about 968s. The rest are being used up and disposed of at an accelerating pace. Soon, all but a few hundred will turn to ruin and we will be left with one of the rarest Porsches ever manufactured. History is littered with orphaned stepchildren that become valuable because of their rarity. Porsche made 76,000 356s.

Jay

This might be more shocking if it weren't a dealer asking this price. 99.9% of the time they shoot for Mars on their asking prices hoping someone with more money than brains will drop by.

The asking price for the 968 is being used to "justify" the (high) pricing on the other exotics they have for sale... Compared to those, the 968 is a "bargain"! Its all about perspective...

I did notice in one of the latest PANORAMA magazines that the pricing for 968's is slowly creeping up.

That car sure had a great shine on it! Wonder what they used. I'm all for these ridiculous prices. You only need one to set a mark others can try to follow. Who among us wouldn't sell their car for that price, Flash excluded?
By the way it's snowing here again 5" so far wtf

Me.

I mean my blue one. I might let the tip DD go for $ 45 K , lol .

Not kidding about the six speed, a " cash on the spot " offer for $ 75 k and I still would not budge . $ 100 k I MIGHT give it a thought.

The guy who did my belts last year suggested I start at $25K when I put my Cab up for sale later this spring, so who knows? :dunno

Funny thing, I'd sold it to a friend for $12.5K in 2013, then I repo-ed it.  Ended up putting close to $4K into it to undo the damage he'd caused by letting it sit outdoors for a year, and it still needs a new top.

Not really , it's a simple combination of 1 ) no need to sell the car and 2) can't find anything I like or willing to live with as an alternative under $ 100 K
