I am available early in the week too. We are driving to San Diego for a wedding on the 22nd, so any time between the 15th and 20th would work for us.

Inasmuch as parade and I will both be celebrating turning 59 this year, a 968 gathering in Monterey sounds like big fun - especially since there in no Paso event next month :-(

I would almost certainly drive down unless it is scheduled for Saturday, the 21st. That date is already reserved for the Northern California gathering of Alembic guitar and bass players that I attend every year. (They're much more fun than PCA!)

Bill

We need a thread where we can post pics of our music gear. Heck, there is one for watches, why not music equipment for those of us afflicted with GAS (gear acquisition syndrome for the non-musicians on the forum).

I've been a member mostly since the mid 70s. Back in the day, if your VIN changed hands and they found out, you lost your membership. You had to actually own a Porsche to stay a member. I got pissed off about that in the late 80s when i was hauling around little leaugers and just couldn't afford the luxury of 2 cars, a truck, and a Porsche. I sold my 911 and a few months later the new owner joined, They wrote me a letter and said I had 90 days to buy another P-car. I cooled off by the time I bought another one in 95. I've owned at least one Porsche since I was 19 except for those 5 or 6 years when it just wasn't possible.

At the time I rejoined I had moved back to my hometown in TN, and the local PCA, Smoky Mtn chapter, was a fun group, more like a non violent motorcycle gang, than a Porsche club, like we have here in Atlanta or the one in Ft Lauderdale I was in.. I've never been to a meeting or social event here, but 2 or 3 times a year you can go to a DE at Road Atlanta, get on the track in your own car for ~300 bucks or so. If you do that once every year you more than make up your dues, compared to paying for any other track time available at Road Atlanta or anywhere else within 200 miles. The local group here also has some N GA Mtn runs with a set course that usually attracts enough people for 3 groups of 10-20 cars, fast, intermediate, and just out to look at the leaves. Every time I get in that fast group I have to buy a set of brake pads and sometimes discs the next week, so I've learned to start out with the fast group, then after the first stop, I drop back into the 2nd group where everyone is a bit more sane.

In the balance over 35+ years in 3 different states, I'd have to say the price of belonging to PCA has been a good value. I haven't even mentioned the ability of getting help just about anywhere you go if needed, all the info that wasn't available anywhere else until high speed internet changed the world, and I've saved every Panorama, although I lost years worth of them in a divorce move.Unfortunately they were the oldest ones I had and contained the most real information on aircooled cars. It has become more of a marketing rag now than it once was. I guess it depends on whay yur interests are, and where you happen to be. Small town clubs are far better, IMO, than big city chapters for a host of reasons that may only apply to me

pulling down unrelated posts now, so that this thread stays on topic and we manage to get an event together, and not get lost in other stuff. please continue your other conversations, but in other threads.

Hum... If I were not in Brazil for the FIFA World Cup at that time, I would most definitely think of driving down. Darlene and I had such a great trip last time, that she has told me she is game for another some day. I have a daughter moving to Escondido in August and we plan to visit in the fall. Looking forward to info on another event around that time (in a seperate thread - of course!!! :) )

I've been a PCA member for 28 years (Boston and Wash DC). I guess it depends on the club. Have had nothing but good experiences with both, ie DEs, Drive N Dine, Parades. I am a big Porsche fan not just a 968 fan. I follow all the races. I've been to the factory and museum.. I'e driving a lot of different models (thanks to IMA) and they have been great cars to drive.

Did anyone else register for PCA Parade? I'm #84 and it looks like the registration filled up in 24 hours with over 800 entrants! I'll be competing in Production class autocross on Thursday 6/19 as well as the Concours Monday 6/16. Also was able to join the Canepa Design Tour Saturday 6/21.

that's exactly the kind of thing that makes me nuts about PCA. filled up??? why is there a limit? can they not figure out how to handle a bigger crowd? they do this every year too. as somebody who produces events for a living, if i ever had a limit like that, i'd be out of business in a hurry.

It's not filled up, still open for registration. The hotels are filling though.

yeah, but there are a ton of hotels there, so not a problem getting a room. maybe just not where they are. i don't generally like the hotels they choose anyway, and tend to go somewhere nicer. i get the budget thing though in their choices.

The main hotel is the Hyatt Regency, but that one filled up fast, the others they have a discount with are the Hilton Garden, Portola, Casa Munras, and Hotel Abrego. I have all the codes for those if someone needs them, someone forwarded me there registration email. From what I understand they are not limiting the registrations, but the events like the rally's and drives have limits and if they are full you will get wait listed. If someone drops out or if they get enough wait lists they will open up another day for the event. They opened registration at 3:30am and by 11am they had over 700 people registered.

I think I'll head there for a day or two. Still need to figure out which days I want to attend.

Can't make it, got a last minute gig and the car is going in to the mechanic to see if he can sort out the gas smell.

no tickets. no gate. it's a club thing. it's open to the public for viewing, but not participation.
