This psst weekend my wife and I attended the Florida PCA Zonefest held at Sebring. Last year at this event I won first place in my class for the concourse. This year I was able to repeat that performance taking first in the 924, 944, 968, 928 class.

That was great but not what this post is about. I also was awarded the peoples choice, which was based on the votes of the 130 PCA members attending. When you think PCA or Porsche you think 911 or 356 not 944 or 968, and I have never seen any car but those two take the peoples choice. It just might be that these great cars are starting to be seen and respected by the rest of the Porsche world. It has to start some where.

Congrats . Must be a nice feeling and no doubt a lot of time and effort was expended to accomplish that. How many cars did you compete against in your class? I lost to a good looking 928 at the Hershey swap meet concours and was happy with second. Of course Jeff who had run and won with Minty the previous three years didn't run. Our cars have a great look which is slowly being realized. Slowly the key word! Lol

It's nice to know that it is NOT impossible to win a People's Choice award without a 911 <_<

I'll bet most of them didn't know what they were voting for. The last PCA event I went to, I heard my car called everything from a 924 to a 944 to a 928!

Yeah, sadly the guy at the Chevron yesterday activated the pump for me saying "Which pump number are you?, oh, #1 with the 911". I just walked away :(

I usually like the feeling of people not knowing exactly what it is. They always tend to like how it looks. On the flip side, couple of weeks ago, I was just a few blocks from my house when a guy in the passenges seat of a VW hollered to me "Nice 968". Felt good to be recognized. Never was a fan of the 911, especially in the 80's and 90's, yet I seriously looked at purchasing a 944 T. Always thought it had a great look.

Kid at the drive through window asked if it was a "Lambo".

I just said "uh, no. It's a Porsche." He said "oh Porsh, cool."

People I run into often think the 968 is anything but a Porsche. Guy at the liquor store said it was a Ferrari.

Anyway, congrats to the OP on the People's Choice Award!

My Dad has given me advice that I have followed for years. He told me that it is not necessary to correct people if they are mistaken. Interestingly enough, many people think I'm a Doctor or lawyer. I don't bother to correct them. So when people get the 968 wrong, ah who cars! They are still oohing and aching over it and that's all that counts! Lol

That's what I like about the 968, it's so enjoyable to drive that you *do* take it to the drive-through window and the liquor store. Not many real Lambos or Ferraris do that, hence the lower DB-Factor for the 968.

I bumped this post because of what occured on the day I originally posted it. That afternoon I suffered a torn retiner in my left eye, for most folks thats a problem but for me it's disaster. I have been blind in my right eye for 40 years and have grown quite used to it, it dosen't bother me and most people don't even know. But with the loss of my left eye I was completely blind. To make a long story short, 2 1/2 months and 2 operations later, I'm back on the road enjoying life and the 968. But having that long to do little but think, I spent alot of time thinking about the 968 and why I spend the kind of time and money I do on it.

I can think of a lot of different reasons but the bottem line is that I love the car. I love driving it, I love looking at it and I love when people don't know what it is. I love working on it correcting little faults and adding improvments. I have owned a bunch of cars in my 65 years, Benzs, BMW, Audis, VW, Jags, Corvetts, GTO's, Corvairs (Times 5.), Hell even a Ford GT40. With all that said and done I couldent give a rats a** what others think of my object of passion, if it's thumbs up, thank you, if thumbs down, thanks and have a good day. The two awards from Zonefest are to me a validation of the work I put in to make a silk purse out of a sows ear, and an indicater that the 968 is starting to be recognized as the great car that it is.
