Cigars sound good! Yellow vettes remain to be seen! Cigars in a yellow Vette , hmm now there you go.

No need for cigars in those yellow Vettes, they can just "smoke" the 968s for fun .. :-(

Until they hit the corners, or get left behind when they stop to figure out how to put the top down.. :D

As I recall our Sunday morning drive nearly turned the vettes into Yellow Submarines. But not much chance of that his year with absence of rain.

before we start hearing about somebody we don't know showing up in their yugo, while i certainly have absolutely no issue with non-968 cars attending the event, as in the case of people flying in from out of town, please rest assured that this is a 968 owners/968forums event. you have to be or have been an owner, and a 968 Forums member.

it is open to all 968 owners, past and present (as well as their significant others, kids, etc). i don't care what they drive to the event. if they don't come in a 968, they won't be parking with the 968s though, as that would mess with the photo ops. the vettes were a funny exception. i really don't want to see a bunch of people showing up out of the blue, and want to keep this to our group. that's one of the reasons that there is a ticket purchase required to attend the event. it helps manage the group size and the things happening throughout the weekend. the event is an opportunity for people with a common interest to socialize in an atmosphere outside what would normally bring them together.

it has been a great formula, and i'm not inclined to change it. we always have a great time, and i am really looking forward to this year's event

So I'm confused, Vettes are ok but Yugo's aren't?

And even if you are a 968 owner and forum member, still no tree-hugger rental vehicles allowed ! ( prius, leaf, or that kind of crap..) But yeah, I agree..this is not a PCA event, so unless your license plate frame reads " my other car is or was a 968 " a 944 a Boxster, a 928 and/or any given 911 variation for that matter is a bit out of place for this... Even if you are a wine fanatic. Ok, we might make an exception if you show up in a Carrera GT ( but be forewarned..if you do, you will probably hear " wow, that's one fast Toyota MR2 you're driving.. !! )

lol - yeah - this is definitely not a pca event. way too much fun and way too loose for that group.

bottom line is that if you show up in something other than a 968, there had better be a good reason (like your 968 is 3000 miles away). i don't expect that to be a problem though. we don't have drop-ins, so it eliminates most of that right there, and everybody else gets it.

enough about that. only 3 weeks to the hotel deadline. don't get left behind.

Geez, the Yugo prompted a recollection of the Strada I drove in my dark years. Piece of crap. No heat no a/c, no guts and I lived in dc. Only good thing it was a small car in a city. Tree hugger eh. Lots of trees came down for that garage. Flash told me to fly into Lax for rental choice. I will do my best to fit into this august group of non tree hugging 968, wine, scotch and cigar smoking group. Boy is the pressure killing me to fit in. Maybe I should ship my car out. Course Blau got creamed doing that! Lol

he made the common and fatal mistake of shipping it uncovered. NEVER do that.

it's a fun drive though if you have a co-driver and the time to do it. i still plan to make a lap around the country soon.

The Audi was pretty amazing...and a West Coast 968er so entirely ok. If you're coming from the East Coast it is perfectly acceptable to not ship your 968, but you'd better REPRESENT!

So let me get this straight, if I have friends with a 944 Turbo and Boxster then they aren't welcome at this event?

But yeah, I agree..this is not a PCA event, so unless your license plate frame reads " my other car is or was a 968 " a 944 a Boxster, a 928 and/or any given 911 variation for that matter is a bit out of place for this... Even if you are a wine fanatic.

Thanks dude, then I'm out. Have fun everyone :)

lol. they are - their cars aren't.

this is a tough one, and i think dan is perhaps overstating the intention or goal.

seriously, i don't really care who attends, but it is a 968 event. if somebody is bringing guests in their 968, and everybody bought a ticket, i see no issue with it. why would i? we just don't want this turning into a diluted bunch of non-968s, nor do i want to deal with part-timers or drop-ins. but heck, somebody who isn't a 968 owner now might become one, so who am i to turn them away altogether?

as for non 968 owners arriving in something other than a 968, that's just bad form. it's like crashing a party. if this were a public car show or something, it would be very different. it's a club event though, and you need to be a member of the club, or at least a guest attending with a member of the club. it's really more of a perk of being a member than anything else. have you ever tried to crash a pca event? at least we let people in as guests.

does that make more sense?

No, it doesn't really make sense and it's not at all crashing a party. It's one thing if random people in completely different makes of cars attend this event. It's a completely different thing if FRIENDS who enjoy WINE and love CARS arrive in other model PORSCHES. I thought this event was about good peeps who enjoy wine and having a good time?
