Had to move this to respond...

Hasn't been registered since 1996? Where has it been.

I'm guessing the Chrome Wheels casued the salvage title.Posted Image

It was stolen then sat in a police impound yard. The guy is taking it to the skyline auction in fairfield,NJ tomorrow. I am going to check it out after work. What's up with the chrome wheels ? ;)

Saw that posting a few days ago, but didn't think it was worthy of looking into or sharing based on both of those issues... Where has it *been*?!

Not a fan of chrome eh boys? I was about to say that I liked them. Rico if you buy the car and want to ditch the wheels look me up.

rxter, Ramius has a set he is probably going to be willing to part with...I believe that Darryl is hooking him up with a refinished set for his car.

Regards,

Jay

It has some nice options including LSD.

Midnight blue
Dark blue top
Classic gray partial leather
6 speed
LSD
17" wheels
full power driver's seat.
It is a 718 car so it has the 944 seats.

I have not seen the car before.

There has been a 968 Cabriolet with chrome wheels that attended the 2001 968 Celebration in Hershey, plus it has come back a number of years since then. Owner was Ricardo O. from NYC but his Cab is shown on my records as a 1992 Black Cab so it cannot be the same car. Perhaps Ricardo sold the wheels.

Well, according to the listing it went to auction yesterday (if it's to be believed) so it might pop up somewhere on a lot... Buyer beware. Posted Image

The car is a little rough and hard to believe it's in the 30,000 mile range. However with some clean up it can be a nice car. There was a few things such as the salvage title which had me concerned. The car did sit for a long time. Most of the rubber is dried up etc....He wasn't willing to move to much on his price. He did bring it to auction and got $8000.00 wholesale today.

Were the chrome wheels an option on that car ? One of them was in bad shape...

wow... 8,000 is a lot more than I was expecting. Sure it's low miles but who knows what damage has happened to sitting. Could end up costing quite a bit in repair.

I doubt the wheels are chrome. Most likely polished.

I got my 86 911 from a dealer that picked up it at the Manheim auction in PA. It's been three years and the car has been trouble free, 104k miles on it, had all receipts so I knew it had been taken care of.

Not from the factory. The best you could get was option XD9 which was wheels painted to match body color. They are rare. 10 in total out of 4,242 North american 968 cabs and coupes. Most of the XD9 cars were white.

Conventional wisdom suggests $12 to $15 K to get it fully sorted. Anything less would be a bargain. If the mileage is correct, spending $12K to get it right and the way someone wants it they will have a very nice car in the end. Maybe it will end up here and we can see the transformation.
