Maybe we can convince speedhut to do a run on a group buy?
I don't think it's worth $1000 either, but maybe we can do a deal.

What is the reflected part on the top/bottom of left most and right most guage? Do you think that is a digital readout?

Okay, I got the seller to send me an image of the "Speedhut" dial set at night. I guess the dial set that was installed was a prototype for the 968 and was initially going to go into production. This was canceled when Speedhut felt that there was not enough interest for the dial set. In any event, the seller told me that the $1,000.00 was for everything, the cost of the dial set, removal of the gauge cluster, wiring, pulling apart the gauges and installation. I contacted Speedhut and they told me that the 928 dial kit should work just fine for the 968. Here are some images of the dial kit.

Wow, that does look nice and fixes a common complaint with the 968 gauges (lighting). I didn't realize the 928 gauges were so close to the 968. Do you agree that it would work just fine?

Jeff968, I don't see why it would not work. I would just make sure that you select the 180 mph version so that it matches the 968. Otherwise, everything else look's like it is in the right place. I might check this out myself as an upgrade. I provided the link below -

On another note, I was looking through the 968 Registry for the Red exterior / Chesnut brown interior combination with full leather interior and could not find another combination like it in the registry. I am guessing that this must be a rare bird, 1 of 1 type of combination. I did not realize how much stuff this car had on it. Too bad I did not have some extra cash laying around.

i can think of a couple of reasons it wouldn't work
tach - 8 cyl vs 4
speedo - calibrated for what tires and gearing?
the other stuff is probably ok, as they probably used the same kind of senders and such

I would agree although I won't know for sure if it is a "1 of 1" coupe until I finish the coupe registry sometime early next year. I checked my sales brochures for 94/95 and although Porsche recommended many interior colors to go with red (including midnight blue!) Chesnut brown was not one of them so someone ordered a "custom".

i am running different bulbs with red boots - not sure i like it yet or not

The secret is to not put too powerful a bulb in right? As they get too hot and could damage things?

yup - not sure if i'm there or not, but remember that i like dim dash lights, so probably not an issue - if i ran these at full on, they would probably melt something - i am NOT recommending this approach

I used higher watt bulbs in my dash initially and melted the housing, big mistake. I would definitely not recommend going above the 3 watt bulbs.

The website indicates that these are just gauge faces that fit over your stock speedo / tach pointers.
