I test drove that car a few weeks ago when I was in the market. It was an M030 with 30,000 miles, which sounds somewhat worthy of the price, but the paint and the interior both has a surprising amount of wear on them. The 968 I just bought last weekend with 98,000 miles has better paint and interior, and it was $8,000. The lighter color leather obviously shows the wear more than the black leather though...

It's a strange market for 968s right now. Some people believe that they are appreciating, and price them accordingly, and other people see them as a second hand car in a struggling economy, and price them to sell. The prices do not seem to correlate very directly with the condition of the car.

a lot of people over-value M030 - i don't hold that reverence for that package - 10 years ago, or even 5 maybe, M030 would be worth more than a standard car - that really isn't the case anymore - it's the same with super low mileage cars - age has become the enemy here - there is a point at which it is actually worse for the resale value - parts age out and need replacing, often at high cost - i just went through this on a super clean 14k mile car - it took another 3k to get it roadworthy, and even at that i was deferring a couple of things that will need replacing

nowadays though, unless the shocks and struts have been renewed, M030 is actually a hinderance - those are incredibly expensive to replace, and there is better after market stuff available now for less money - the swaybars are cheap - the brakes are marginally better, and the spindles are beefier, and if you are going to track the car, that might have some value, but then you wouldn't be looking for a cosmetically perfect car, so again the realistic value is diminished

IF you are a special interest customer, (like somebody looking to mothball a car or race in a class where M030 would help) and IF you are willing to spend the money to go through them and bring them back up to snuff, super low mileage cars or M030 cars will ultimately be a better idea and be worth more - but for nearly everyone else, it is better to seek out the colors and such you want, and go from there

Great points Flash.
IMHO, Most guys who buy an 030 car don't need it, but brag about it.

And those who buy an 030 car for more serious work change most
of the 030 stuff out for aftermarket.

The only real great thing is the hubs and spindles, which 90% don't need anyhow.

yeah - i think bragging rights are a big factor - lol - unfortunately most of the time spent bragging is either with the mechanic, as they try to justify out loud the expense, or to the dentist, as they try to repair the rattled teeth
