This is dirt cheap -- and given LSD, good candidate for a track car, IMHO. If I had more storage space that's hidden from my wife, I'd be all over it!

Somebody buy this before I feel compelled to build another ITR racer! That's a good deal except the trans grind...

I almost bought it. Seller is a real nice guy! Only drawback is that I can;t ever get rid of salvage title in Ohio. Only can get it converted to 'rebuilt salvage' which allows you to drive on roads but still can't get fully insured. Too bad for me.

Good point. The limitations of a salvage car vary from state to state. Do your home work up front.

If the car could be had for closer to $3500, it would be good to part out.

I'm tempted just so I can get back into the saddle but I just don't have the income for the upkeep on that car.

Lots of work is needed to get the car up to "respectable shape" so I agree going for a track car or parts car. rolleyes.gif

Other than a spare parts car, I'm not convinced it's a good deal even at $ 3500.. a cheap paint job at Maaco which will last you three or four years is still going to cost a couple of thousand, right ? huh.gif Then for the reuphosltery of the interior with mediocre leather you're looking at another two thou.. And I seriously doubt you'll be spending anything less than yet two more thou just to bring it up to acceptable condition mechanically, suspension, a few old parts which must be replaced here and there.. and you're pushing $ 10 k for which you could probably get a coupe in far better shape to start with.. just a thought. blink.gif

Naaah - I'm a big fan of Maaco for race cars and beaters. I spent $250 this February for a good paint job - machine sanded and three coats. Can't go wrong - call it protective primer. But waiting until the slow time of the car painting season is the trick - in the NE February is when the great offers occur. Add a pair of seats and new floormats - you got a driveable beater :-)

Here's mine - total of $2500 invested in the car including the $500 purchase price. Matter of fact I just got back from passing NJ state inspection :-)

nothing wrong with maaco - they shoot good paint, and can't afford to do rework, so they generally do a decent job - the key though is in the prep - if you want it to last, you have to have the car fully prepped - they will try to cut corners, so you have to micromanage the job too - but if you do all that, a $1000 job will come out just fine

they don't do custom colors though

WOW ! Really had not expected the cost, quality and longevity of a paint job from a "chain" to be anyway near that... learn something new every day, I suppose.

Now I'm thinking the two quotes I got ( from very reputable body shops, mind you ) for $ 9,000 and $ 11,000 respectively, for a paint job were...absurd blink.gif

well, absurd may be strong, but that is high - $8k can be expected though - it all depends on the cost of the prep

something to keep in mind though is that maaco will only do a "seal and shoot" job, where they seal up the door jams and go for it - a real body shop will take the body panels off and shoot them off the car,and shoot the door jams separately

i'm not suggesting that you won't get a better job at a custom shop - you might - at a good one you will certainly get a lot more attention to detail - you will also get color matching

all i am saying is that you can get a decent job at maaco - i have had a few cars shot there, and been very happy with the results - they weren't custom jobs, and i was only looking for clean new paint, not create a show car - i got what i wanted

I did almost buy it for the engine /tansaxle rather than to rebuild. But It needs so little to get up to shape again, I just couldn;e rip all the guts out....or could I....

new door panels
8 way electric seats
engine
transaxle (maybe with LSD...did not get to see the option sticker)
new doors, handles, mirrors..for the next time I run off the road
etc...

lots of parts potential....

Just an update -- this car sold at $4k, but it didn't actually have LSD. The buyer is fixing it up, and is on another forum (he'll find this forum soon enough...)
