Which doesn't scare me away just yet, I'm going to look at the car this Wednesday and if I like the visual, get a PPI done this weekend. This is going to be a weekend fun/track car so I'm not concerned with it's tarnished history, but I want a straight frame car that doesn't track. I plan on finding an uncrowned road and doing the hands off the wheel trick, I will have mention to the guys at the shop about the accidents too.

Based on my carfax, anything else in there that you guys are suspect to?

In speaking with the guy about his car yesterday, I don't think the belts have been changed, he didn't think so at least.

How bad is that for a 72K car? He said he thinks water pump and belts are original I think. . .

very - they should be just about ready for the second change by now - if your guy doesn't think it' a big deal, get a new guy - if you pop a belt you're in for at least 3 grand - max life is 8 yrs or 60k - service is supposed to be at 45k - many people are wisely now changing them at 30k to prevent the aformentioned tragedy

Build the belt/water pump change into the price. The accidents don't bother me if the repairs were done well but depnds on the severity of the accident. NY requires damages as low as $1000 be reported so it could have been a small or large amount of damage.

I appreciate the device. I haven't seen the car yet and since it's close I think I'll check it out. Right now the guy is asking $12,900 and the price is negotiable. Best case, I can talk the price down even further for a car that has had some bodywork, but runs well (he says it runs beautifully). Worst case, the car is busted.

A local race shop near me said they would do a PPI with compression and leakdown for a couple hundred bucks, do you think this car is worth it if I can get if for say $10,500?

If the repairs are done well, the car checks out and it is color/combo/options you like then certainly is worth it. I'm still kicking myself for letting a $10.5K cab get away that needeed some TLC.

Definately the same car, look at the accident report # and mileage at 6/2004.

This does not sound like a winner at any price, no where near $10k, JMHO
