I plan to sign up for this event. Registration not yet posted on the PCA site. Any other 968's plan to participate?

I'll be going down for the Historic Races unless the wine grape harvest has another early start like last year. We had fruit coming through the door on August 15th last year.

As of July 12 there are 4 cars (968's) signed up for the Concours and 1 for the Corral. My Amethyst Queen has been entered into the concours competition.  (One must always keep a certain degree of optimism)

Here are all details:

Hope to be able to drive down from N California that day to see the cars, if my new grandson delays his arrival for a few days. But won't have the 968.

lol - if it weren't a pca event, i might think about it.  those things tend to be so "stick up your butt" though that i stopped going years ago.  somehow being all about "looking" fast rather than "going" fast is at odds with the reason for having one of these cars.  every pca event i have been to has been populated with a majority of people who have never seen the far side of 100mph.  they are all about shiny and pretty, and not about what these cars are really about.

the mantra should be "think fast - go faster", not "hey, your center cap isn't pointing to the valve stem"

Completely agree with Flash re the typical PCA mentality ( also the reason I don't usually participate in those events or associate with the members if I am at an event where PCA has a prominent presence ) although, as is the case with everything else there are exceptions to the rule and a few members do have their head squarely on top of their shoulders as opposed to firmly inserted up their rear end . I will be there on Sunday for the historic F1 cars races and that day's other events , but unfortunately not taking the 968 there ;,I'm riding along with two other friends coming up from SoCal who rented a car we can all carpool in from and back to San Jose where they're staying .

I am just going in with an open mind. I really don't care what everyone thinks. The 968 is my daily drive. I drive it fast or slow, just as Ferry recommended.

I know the 968 will draw some attention. Just there to have a fun day, not to win "medals"

We 968 owners know that our cars are very special and rare. We do not need any special help from the PCA

We ( the 968-ers who will be attending ) should set up a place and time to meet - perhaps for lunch and / or a beer. Met Bob ( AZ ) that way at a previous event there .

i wonder what the hotel situation is there?  typically it is VERY hard to find a room anywhere near the bigger events in that area.  last i heard, you had to reserve a room 2 years in advance, if you wanted to be within 45 minutes of the track.

Still the same problem. You can find rooms close by but at crazy prices $ 300-500/night. Even Motel 6 in Salinas is expensive. I booked Economy Inn in Watsonville in April. $130/night. That was the least expensive I could find.

i haven't stayed in a hotel that was less than $300 a night for years.  even $500 a night is a no brainer, if it's right there.  where is that?  i couldn't even find those the last time i thought about doing this.  the drive in from watsonville can be crazy.  i've had it take 2 hours to drive in and get parked.  no chance i would ever put up with that.  gotta be close.

The closest you can do at this point is Gilroy , at approx 2x to 3x  the standard room rack rate, at most hotels ..IF they still have any available rooms.   And yes, unless you leave Gilroy before 6 am and plan to spend some time just idling ( no pun intended ) somewhere near the track, waiting for the gates to open at 7 am,  the drive after 7 and until 9 or so will be hellish !  I shouldn't even call it drive , you're moving at 5 mph all the way...if you're lucky.  Same situation on the way back.  Either leave a couple of hours early before the festivities end , or hang around there for a couple of hours after it closes until the traffic lightens up a bit.  Pick your poison.

The Werks Reunion event is just around the corner. The watercooled "underdogs" (yes, the ones that saved the Company) are featured and it's a total sold out event on both corral and concourse levels. I will be there with 5 other 968's in the concourse area. ....Should be a lot of fun!!!

Well, I had hoped to make it to the historic races, but the wine grape harvest will start early next week for us and I have to get the barrel room reconfigured to a crush pad this weekend.

Sung to the tune of "What I did for love".

Is a crush pad like one of those old Chevy vans with the walls and ceiling covered in shag carpet?
