flash, I'm with you on owners thinking that they had the work done recently. I looked at a 968 last month. The owner said all maintenance was good, the tires were new, about 4K on them and the timing belt was changed 8k ago. After looking at the car and the reciepts, the tires were a mixed set of Dayton & Bridgestone purchased 4 years ago, and the timing belt was 5 years old.
Also, he said the clutch had been replaced. The reciept said " master & slave cylinder replaced and fluids filled.
Like the lyrics in a Tom Waits song, "The Large Print Giveth, and the small print taketh away" haha!

I am going through the same ordeal right now. Maintenance. Labor of love as far as I am concerned. Never ending on a car like this...better to stay ahead of the curve than behind it.

Yup, and right now I'm getting a bit behind on little things, just waiting for warm weather to pull some repairs. Door handle lever on driver's door, roof antennae, front grill, armrest pad, all to be replaced. Just turned 105k miles, and thankfully, all is solid and strong mechanically. Knock on vinyl...

All this talk of ongoing high cost maintenance and repairs is making me rethink my purchase of this car though I have not met another 968 owner to compare the condition of my car with.

Every P-car I've owned in the series (924/944S/968) has been very expensive to maintain, compared to a family sedan.

They are all like boats so don't worry that our cars are any different to maintain than any other hobby specialist car. At least we don't have moorage on top of the hobby!

routine maintenance and wear items will cost $1500 to $2000 per year as well.
