Here are some pics of the early '92 cab I saw today at a PCA car show. Note the inset badge.

There is one for sale In Bellevue WA, at Park Place LTD that has an inset badge. Saw it at a PCA Porsche Party, seemed to be in pretty decent shape. Cool color...

The one in the link is a 1995. I thought that only early 1992's had an inset badge?

Seems inset, though a bit hard to tell.

Complete front end rebuild with a 92 hood?

That is definately a 95. A number of things show that it is. i would guess a used hood as well. That cab is slate grey in color. I have 9 registered in that color. I like it too.

Jeff,
What shows it to be a '95 besides the seats?

Jon - While we're at it, what about the seats shows it to be a 95? That the only year the 8 way seats were available or something?

Thanks!

Well, from my observation, the 94's and 95's had seats with fewer seams (ribs?) in them:

Whereas the 92's and 93's had what I would call the "classic" seats that are found in 944's.

Seems to be true. My '95 has fewer ribs that the '92 & '93 seats pictured in the post.
Any other changes? Why do you think that they changed the seats in that last 2 years?

Hrm. I have a 94, and it seems to have the 'classic' seats with more ribs on them.

Yep, I stand corrected. I did a quick survey of Ebay's active and completed 94 968 auctions, and 2 out of 10 had the "classic seats". It must have been a mid-year change. I'm just about certain that all 95's have the new style.

My 94 has the classic (many ribbed) style seats, but I'm gonna guess that many of the 94s with the old seat style are like mine and really 93s with the 718 factory option code.

718 = program VIN Change (car built late in the production year, so flagged with 718, and bumped up to next model year).

About the seat styles, there was a mid-year change in the '94 model year when Porsche used up its supply of "classic" 944 seats. They then began using the 993 seat, which had the newer stitch pattern.

Not positive on this, but you might actually find a 993 part number on the actual seat.

Best,

Buzz

Other - Post '93 changes include Non-rolled edge exhaust tip - Deleted engine compartment dress-up covers - added A/C particle filters. These things are all visual on Post 718 option '94s & '95s. Porsche also claimed improved headlights for MY '94. Other minor changes may have occured but basically these cars are all the same in the important features. Options choice varied much more.

Regards - Jacks Cobalt '93 Cab

Jon, well the biggest thing that tells me it is a 95 is the VIN. It has an S which indicates 1995 model year. Other items seen in the picture are the lack of engine trim pieces which they stopped including during the 94 model year as well as the seat change. The VINs on the 1994 cabs range from RS840061 - RS840741 (681 cabs produced for the 94 MY). The last VIN I have with the 944 sytle seats is RS840244. The first cab with all the changes and the new style seats is RS840251. This happened between June-July 1993.

I just bought a 94 cabbie, # RS840416. It has the later style seats. Can't answer about the engine dressup stuff. I hope to see other 968's at the LA All Euro Show so I can compare stuff like this. Where are the option codes on the cabbie located? I know where the paint code is (mine's grand prix white). How do I find out what color the interior is (It's blue but I don't know if it's cobalt blue or the regular blue). I need to order a shift boot and I want it to match.

from everything i have been able to find, it wasn't a case of runing out of seats - it was a model year change - 93s that didn't make it in time for their model year, got carried over and rebadged as 94s - these had option code 718 - i have yet to find such a "94" car that did not have all of the 93 pieces, and i have yet to find a 94 without the 718 code with any of them

tony - if you bring the car, we can go over it with a fine toothed comb and insult you and pick on you and such - kidding - we'd all be happy to check out the car for you though - it's a thing we do - so far noody has run away, though when we found the bird's nest in dj's car, it was close
