What kind of gas mileage are you getting?
#21

Flash - 1 mpg Canadian gallons is about 0.8 mpg American gallons. 32 mpg in Canadian is about 25.6 mpg US gallons. Our gallon holds 160 oz - yours holds 128 oz (I think).

Now, for all you western folks - we don't have 10 gallon hats. Our cowboys wear 45.5 litre hats. Even the bad ones.

yes - it's actually .83, but whether you divide by 1.2 or multiply by .83, you still get the gallon to gallon conversion

now, since canada is in clicks, i presumed you posted in clicks - that's why i calculated down - did you post in miles?

Yeah - I posted in mpg using Canadian gallons. Still hard to think of litres/100 km. I'm used to thinking in terms of how far I can go on a unit of fuel instead of how much fuel do I need to go a unit of distance.

got it - no worries - that puts you right smack in the middle of the normal range

I get about 18 mpg in the city. However, I generally floor the throttle at every opportunity. Just can't help myself.

This is hot off the press. Cab tiptronic, 1 day driving, 1007 km, 900 km highway at 125 km/h, remainder city, 29.2 mpg Canadian, 24.3 mgp US.

Approximately 7 mpg at Road America. A little braking but mostly WOT north of 5500 rpm the whole time.

Not bad!

In the UK, I am achieving up to 35mpg regularly (when on a long run).

If I am out playing in the twisty back roads, I haven't checked the mpg - but I don't count beans when I am having fun ;-)

That is UK gallon (UK gallon is 4.5 litres)

General point, we can get 99ron in the UK - cost around 95p / litre ($1.75!)

Standard 97 Ron is around 86p litre

I always use Shell V-Power (used to be Optimax).

The Porsche window sticker lists 26 highway and I thought those things were optomistic! I don't thinks I have done better.

Figured I'd add some more actual results:

Date Mileage Gals $ MPG Miles/Tank

29-Aug-06 125,510 17.08 $50.36

8-Sep-06 125,907 19.17 $53.84 20.71 397

21-Sep-06 126,255 17.18 $44.47 20.26 348

23-Sep-06 126,434 7.67 $22.80 23.34 179

23-Sep-06 126,690 10.26 $27.59 24.95 256 hwy (80 mph)

7-Oct-06 127,002 16.21 $39.71 19.25 312 mixed

23-Oct-06 127,325 16.47 $38.02 19.61 323 city

2-Nov-06 127,702 16.87 $39.95 22.35 377 mixed

So it looks like about 20-25 mpg. I like the range of the 968, can count on about 400 miles and more (on freeway) on a tank of gas. Very convenient, since I only have to stop for Starbucks

Configuration:

- Tiptronic.

- California (some type of formulated gas).

- Regular gas (87) for the most part: I would really like some feedback on this one, sometimes I use the 89 Octane. Is this really bad in the long run? I am thinking the higher octane might be for free 'cause there is less knocking and better mileage?

Thanks all -- love this car!

I would not run 87 (regular) in my car except for emergencies. The timing will be retarded due to knocking and while your gas mileage looks pretty good, it should be better with 92 or premium. The car should run better on 92 as well.

Have you ever run good gas in it? Did you notice the performance difference?

Glad you love your car....now go out and buy some good gas!

An old thread, but I was wondering after I gassed up yesterday.

Best I did was my freeway run from PHX to San Diego after I bought the car - about 25.

Worst was my last tank. I need new brakes so I am only using it to run to Fry's, Pep Boys, and other local must dos. And, since I need brakes I am using engine braking as much as possible. And, since I don't drive it as much as I'd like I am flooring it at every opportunity. Result = 14.5.

Averaging a hair under 18.

Thats worse than my 2-stroke rotary. Yikes! Sure is fun though...

I average 20 mpg a tank in daily driving. I can get near 30 on the highway if I'm good... but cruising at anything over 70 kills the mileage. I understand the gearing logic of the 6 speed - but kinda wish that 6th was taller.

Nearly 6 years of ownership, a bit over 100,000 miles (until this year, winter and summer), average is 22.323 mpg, which also includes at least 8 two-day DE sessions.

After running to full tanks of gas in a row, I too am averaging 20mpg. This is a 50/50 mix of hwy/cross town driving.
I have a major service scheduled, Belts/plugs/plug wires/Dist. cap/brakes and will monitor again to see if any gain

I average ~21mpg, [75% stop & go w/ downshifting], on a longer trip around the legal speed limit, I can get 25-26mpg. However, after a few blasts up to 7K rpm and the average drops quickly. And, the switch to synthetic oil seemed to help a little.

have no idea what I'm averaging, but for probably the first time ever i paid attention to the mileage on my trip to los angeles this weekend : started with a full tank, first fill up was after 290 miles, used 11 gallons. 95% highway, mostly in 5th or 6th gear, crusing at 70mph and 75mph, a/c was on less than 20% of the time. t did not measure after that because the last third of the trip the A/C was on 100% of the time, I was also driving a lot faster, etc.. so I'm sure mileage dropped considerably.

I'm getting 21 mixed.
When I go on long highway trips I get about 26.
When I drove to the Canadian GP last year, I got 29. Kept my speed
under 75 with the cruise control.
