CREDIT CARD FRAUD
#21

At a motorway service station I recently saw a Farraday cage card holder with built-in mobile phone battery backup. I thought that would be a good combination for some people. I think I'll head to Amazon shortly, no point waiting until I get robbed!

Quote:As I work in the PCI, (payment Card Industry) I can tell you it is quite possible to walk down the high street with a small tablet tucked in your jacket, a boosted antenna system wrapped round your collar of you coat, and extract $£10 off everyone that comes close enough

I went to a seminar in our IT valley 3 years ago, and they showed a video of just that, the man walked the length of Oxford Street and had managed to rack up £6000

they refunded it all of course,

Buy yourself a security wallet that does not allow RF to penetrate.

and you never ever let your cards out of your sight, never hand it over to a waiter, a person behind a high desk, A swipe through a reader takes less then .25 of a second, then they Have your PAN number and lots of other details

My Day Job is a PCI Specialist Compliance engineer

I'm pleased to say my wife found me an rfi protected wallet which works a treat. I'm not paranoid, but certainly feel better for any additional security available. Thanks Smile

I no longer use credit cards at outside gas station pumps ; it’s reportedly one of the top 3 most common methods used by crooks to ( install skimmers ) and steal your card info . So much so, that some card companies automatically decline charges at pumps, they suggest you go inside the station and process the charge there .

I also have a rfi wallet, I only bought it because of a two tone and very thin design I liked, but realized it’s also rfi-breach preventive so it’s a bonus !

I bought one at Saks Fith Avenue men’s accessories section , but then a few years later when it was time to replace it , they no longer carried them , so I found it online .

My wife bought mine from "Action" which appears to be only in Europe, I've just looked it up for you, it's not in the US. I'm sure they'll be on Amazon or equivalent. Trouble is you can't test it until you get it, so if you can find one in a store you can slide your card into the wallet and test it at the counter. If the card functions through the wallet ......

I just checked online for the exact same one I have ( the same one which I reordered ) and theyre no longer available even there , but there are dozens of other different brand ones with RFID protection ..the problem is that even if you find the exact dimensions on the description , its still a little tough to sense the touch & feel what youre getting, the quality build, and all those other things that perhaps might not seem all that important ...until you end up with something that just doesnt measure up to what you expected. On the other hand, if you dont care much about anything other than RF protection Im sure any of the ones online will do just fine. I need the highest quality and durability and slimness possible since I keep my wallet in the back pants pocket, and this sit on it all the time ..so with the size and weight of my derrière pressing on that thing half of the day, it better be made well enough to last ...

I’ve a wallet I purchased in Vail in 91 that is still serviceable but not as good looking as it was. I sit on mine also. While I haven’t looked for this protection I’ve not found a wallet I like. Fortunately the bears haven’t picked up on this credit fraud and we are relatively safe from that danger. Although when they are in the back yard looking at me I do feel like a tasty morsel! I suspect larger metro areas experience this type of fraud more frequently than backwaters.

Theres really nothing bears would be able to taste in a vegan anyway, have you ever seen one ? Nothing but some pale looking skin hanging on bones, no meat whatsoever in between. ( not to be confused with vegetarians, which do eat cheese, eggs, some of them even eat fish .. so at least thats more moderate ..vegans are extremists ,and it shows ! ) Ok so we started with credit card fraud and now were discussing bears and vegans. There are a lot of both of those in nearby San Francisco, although bears in that city does take on a different meaning ..
