Cars and Guns
#1

Being a middle aged grown up adolescent and always looking for some fun, when a buddy of mine posted a link that offered a course including cars and guns well who could resist. So I drove down to DC hooked up with another college buddy and drove to Shackleford, Virginia to take this course. This place trains the military, law enforcement, CIA, Secret Service, Fortune 500 companies and others including Matt Damon. The idea was to learn defensive and I will call it getting out of Dodge driving. So the first thing we learn to do is move a car that is blocking you. This entails smashing into it to get it out of your way and to be able to drive away. Now from an adolescent standpoint, just being able to smash into a car and not get hurt, in trouble or increase your car insurance premium is quite an intriguing concept. This was remarkably easy to do! Next was backing up as fast as you could around corners with a car in front of you chasing you, literally right off your front bumper all the while honking the horn and distracting you. Not as easy! Next were j turns which again is really much easier than I thought it would be. Last was coming up alongside a car and tapping them into a spin. This was perhaps the easiest of them all and from again my adolescent standpoint has many practical applications. I can't wait till someone pisses me off on the road. Can't of course be in the 968.

I'm not a big gun guy although their sprinkled through the house for personal protection. Trainers taught us how to shoot an m4 an mp5 and a glock17. It took some time to get mediocre on the glock but the other two were surprising easy to shoot and hit different targets. Clearly my home protection needs to be updated!

Next was a hostage rescue in a house with bad guys and flash bangs. I have a new appreciation for how difficult and chaotic this truly is. I also got shot. It wasn't until the debriefing that as we looked at each other to see who got shot that someone pointed out the wound on my leg that was bleeding. I can't imagine the traing that the Seals went through to capture and kill bin laden.

Last was a drive through a seedy part of town where the road was blocked and people were shooting at you. This used all the techniques we learned and we called out to the driver what to use when. All in all a way cool day for several middle aged, slightly paunched adolescents. Again smashing up cars with no consequences is a fantastic experience. We totaled 4 cars!

Go to living social.com. The only thing that was somewhat disheartening was we were the oldest participants. But few have the capacity for adolescence as I! Lol

Big deal, I go through every single one of the maneuvers Bob listed, every day leaving my garage. ;-). What ?!

That aside, it does sound like a fun course, thanks for sharing the experience.

i think i know what group you talking about, and they have a decent program.

as a side note, from a "similar" experience", oddly though, i found the glock to be incredibly simple to deal with, once i got used to the idea that the recoil was a non-factor. not my weapon of choice, but effective. i scored higher with my own, even though the glock had higher velocity and more rounds.

Yes I like my beretta more but it's probably because I've shot it more. Which of course is relative. But boy was the m4 easy to shoot and hit still targets! The smell of cordite, burning rubber and oil was a olfactorious delight. Sort of like napalm in the morning!

Sounds like a good time. The only thing missing was alcohol! <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/wink.png" class="smilie" alt="" />

yeah - the collapsable stock and shorter barrel of the M4 make it a better close quarters weapon than the AR15, which is why it is now being issued

Tama they had a decent barbacue afterwards. No cold beer. Besides the lack of alcohol they did have some dynamite looking babes working. Since I am a selfish self centered person at times these gals were a distraction. The one told us she was going to be a junior in college and I thought can you say playboy pics. I digress! Short shorts skin tight jeans that looked sprayed on ahhhh!

That is so cool! There are few experiences in my life that rank with the moment my DE instructor told me I was ready to go solo. What a rush!
