Me likes what me sees!

So when does the lift go in?

Very nicely done. I'll bet there is even room for a small winemaking operation in there.

Thanks guys. As I reported before I am somewhat stymied by the floor problem. That will of course eventually be resolved. The lift will go in when it that happens as will all of the other accoutrements that I have previously mentioned. I had hoped to spend a lot of time this winter detailing the car but that waits for now. As with all construction projects I realize that I don't like walking in the cold and dark to get to the garage. So I'm looking into connecting the house to the garage with a dog run. Course I ain't a dog and it's not going to be what those words generally envision! I am installing the wine operation upstairs in the studio.

They aren't in yet Bob but there will be some ideas I got when from your garage when I was out visiting. Craftsman table, chairs, tv, compressor amoung them! I have a deck on the back of my house and a doorway onto that deck which I was going to change so we could walk from there. But that's still outside and well when it's 6 degrees with a windchill of -10 it kinda, well you know what I mean.

This is what every car guy needs.

Is the house just out of the frame? How long of a dog run is that? What are you using to heat the upstairs? Look like the type of place I would send way too much time in. <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/laugh.png" class="smilie" alt="" />

The house is about 35-40 ft away. I just got done talking to my contractor. He would rather knock out the other side and grow the garage!! The upstairs has its own hvac system. Fuel is propane. Need a larger tank though, getting tired of watching it because I'm not used to its usage pattern yet and although I'm on a schedule the consumption rates differ. The compressor got dropped off and discussed cabinets, work bench and frig. Fun stuff. Floor contractor there and doesnt have a clue. Solution unacceptable. I suggested he get the product reps in to consult. Only some many factors in this process. It's not like a jerk like me did it for the first time! Also waiting for the other floor rep I brought in to weigh in with his suggestions. The answer is to do it over. Let's see if Bob who knows nothing about this stuff is right or wrong!!!!!

What is the issue with the floor, did we miss something along the way?

Yes it's under epoxy floor. The wall mounted vacuum came today and I'm starting to think, hmmm this downstairs part might just look cool like the upstairs! Diamond plate trim is under discussion. It's already around the lite switches and looks great. I am checking to see what it looks like from the floor up to the white on the wall.

A little tip. I renforced my cabs with metal corner brackets. Really firms them up.

cabinets are a big deal in a garage. they also tend to get loaded up with heavy items. a couple of design features help with the problems they can have.

get some angle metal from home depot and screw it to the bottom edges (front and rear) on shelves that will carry a lot of weight. it doesn't take much. 1' x 1' is plenty and it only has to be 1/8" thick or so.

choose a counter top that can withstand chemicals like brakleen and carb cleaner.

have a bench that can handle large metal items thrown on it. scratched up tops are not fun.

have a bench that you can beat on. it's a sure bet that you will need to hammer on something.

choose a cabinet surface that cleans easily. you will be opening up those cabinet doors with dirty hands. you'll want to keep your nice new garage clean. white cabinets are the worst thing you can do. no matter how much you clean them, they will develop dingy areas. for surface material, metal is best. plastic is worst. laminated wood can work if you choose a color and surface that can be cleaned with a chemical cleaner.

on the subject of floors, definitely put resin down over your epoxy floor. if you can't squirt carb cleaner or at least brakleen on your floor, you will be VERY upset the first time you work on the car and then want to clean up your floor. ammonia only goes so far.

i don't have all of the features i want in my garage, but i am really limited on size. in order to be able to park 3 cars in there, i had to make compromises that still to this day complicate its use. if i could give up on parking 3 cars in there, i could really have a decent shop. of course that would mean that everybody would be over here working on their cars, which is not what i want. so, the self-limiting factors are at times a benefit.

things to think about.

Ryan, previous threads have identified it as my women's cave. But that said, I've spent the last four years doing the interior design on two massive buildings. We threw out the interior designer because, oh I don't know, he was deaf ,dumb, or just couldn't get what we were saying. By the way im a finance operations guy. No don't ask I'm not, but it's ok if you are, not you Ryan, saw Seinfeld the other nite! I dig the beach and colors. We chose colors to bring healthy bright cheery. Look at the pics . The whole back wall is windows. Liz is an artist so it was somewhat designed with that in mind plus storage. Music tv cigars wine I mean like does it get any better?

Bob thanks for the advice. I missed the angle metal in the pics I took of your garage but I will incorporate all of your suggestions. I am a sponge!
