Car died on the road

Pulled out of a parking lot on to hwy, went about 100 ft and car died. Still had power steering control and other electrics so I was able to steer off the road with no problem. Cranked it a few times and after about 30 secs, it started back up, drove home 6 miles without any further problems. My thoughts are the following:

1. Fuel pump issue
2. DME relay
3. Wiring/ground issue
4. All of the above

Anyone have any other thoughts and where to start testing?

Thx

'93 blk coupe, 136k miles.

considering sacrificing one of my Pcars for a Lotus elise.

Yep, considering freeing up the space for a Elise, by selling/trading my 951. Thinking about going down to Lotus Scottsdale this weekend, and test driving one, if I like it, Ill see what my 951 might fetch.
Im curious if any one here has one, or could shed some light on the difference between our front engine cars, and an elise? I definitely wouldnt give up the 968 for one. but with a 3.0 turbo 951, and a 968, that will be even better eventually, Im kinda thinking about variety. The elise, seems like a absolutely wonderful platform, its lightweight is amazing, and the toyota motor is reliable, and many motors can swap right in. The upgradeability is second to none. What do you guys think? Am I crazy? is it not possible for lotus to make a well built, reliable car? Always been a lotus fan, they were just crap compared to our Porsche's IMO. The new stuff seems to be changing that. I really like the 370 too, but...well, its a nissan, and that rev match for you crap actually kinda offends me. LOL The front grill is fugly too. other than that its a really nice car, but a total pig when compared to the Lotus. You guys seem to be pretty good at weighing out the pros, and cons around here. Im interested to here what you guys think.

Daily Driver - help me choose

Since I bought my 968 Cab a half a year ago I have created a real problem. My daily driver is a 2006 Camry, which is a company car, supplied for my sales position. It is reliable, but is sooooooo boring! It has become even mooooooooooore boring since the 968! I am facing a change in pay structure, in which the company car is to be replaced by a monthly car allowance. I plan to buy the Camry for a "good" deal and then turn around and sell it right away to my daughter (her husband just "wrote off" her car - he's fine).
Now I need to decide what to buy as a DD. I only want to spend between 10 - 15K.
Another Porsche? I've toyed with the idea of a 968 Coupe, but then coming home and looking forward to a spin in my 968 will not have the same appeal! I want a car that is fun to drive but that does not make my 968 Cab less desirable to take out. I have thought of a well sorted 944, but then...
I am seriously considering an Infiniti G35 coupe (that was before I read the thread here about a comparison between the G35 and the 968), but I have not taken one for a spin yet. I have also thought of a VW GLI, a MB or a BMW. Please share your suggestions and feel free to go "all over the map"! (Keep in mind that I am 6'2" tall).
I know some of you have two 968's and I would like to hear your feed back on that also. Having the same car as a DD may make maintenance more "efficient" (well, maybe).
Looking forward to some great reactions!

steering rack bolts

I read that for some '92s the bolts connecting the steering rack to the chassis may have been stretched, due to over torquing in the manufacturing process, causing some of the bolts to loosen. The result would allow the steering rack to shift, which would result in a non-centered steering wheel, less precise steering control, and possible damage to the steering rack.

Any one heard about this?

If so, anyone know if Porsche issued a service bulletin?

And, exactly where are these bolts?

Speedo Repair on Hold

When the speedometer on my '92 coupe lost its odometer and trip recording functions, I checked out our search function and also visited Clark's Garage, Odometer Gears, and KLA Industries, which offers a detailed photo series on removing the instrument panel, steering wheel, etc. Fortunately I held off on buying the 15-tooth gear most sources said the 968 requires. To my dismay, I found my speedometer is unlike those shown in the repair sites (granted they were probably 944s, but my impression was the 968 was similar and used the same repair procedure). My speedo has a circuit board on the back and a clear plastic case for the gears. I quickly abandoned efforts to open it because the gear package visible inside didn't look like those shown on the Web repair sights. I've shipped it off to North Hollywood Speedometer. Anyone else have a similar experience?

I'll preface this by saying that this comment/question is not meant to offend anyone... is there something that I am missing here that would make some 968's worth $20,000 plus? I watched a nice 1994 with 36,000 miles sell on eBay for $14,100. Jeff on this forum is selling a nice 1994 with relativley low miles for less than $14,000. I know a nice example of this car or one with super low miles will be worth more than others but is ANY 968 worth $20,000? Or is that an owner just fishing and not really serious about selling? I have read the most recent market report in excellence and it says one in excellent condition is worth $14,211. They allow 10% or so more for low mileage or extrodinary condition but has anyone actually sold one of these for $20,000 plus?

To make a long story as short as possible they broke BOTH of my main bows while installing the new top. The shop welded the parts and converted the top from power to manual. Now I no longer have a power top and I'm also worried that the welds will not hold. What would you do? I feel like the shop should do what it takes to get my top working (power, not manual). Its been wildly entertaining, for me anyway, and I get this creepy feeling that my alter ego (likely in Nigeria or some other famous scammer's paradise) is enjoying it as well. I'd love to post this for your entertainment, but I want to be respectful of the core purpose of our forum - learning and sharing positive aspects of our cars. Clearly this is a negative aspect, and only related to the 968 as it was the original object of the ad.

So I leave it to you my forum mates to see if you are interested in reading my adventure with scammer michael, and ultimately leave it to the admins judgment.
